Banff and Lake Louise are two communities located in the centre of one of the most beautiful and pristine national parks in the world.
Banff is the busier of the two, known for its shopping, variety of restaurants and abundant accommodation choices. A charming hamlet, Lake Louise is so quiet you can hear the avalanches on the Victoria Glacier echo through the valley on a sunny day.
The area offers a great range of activities, breathtaking scenery.
Banff is situated just inside the Banff National park and has long been a popular summer destination for North American visitors. With the development of the local ski area at Norquay, winter holidays have become more and more popular. It is a lively resort with good nightlife.
Lake Louise lies across the National Park down the trans-Canadian highway. It is a small and peaceful haven, with a few hotels and shops. It has its own ski area about 5 minutes' away by bus.
Sandwiched between the two is Sunshine Village, with a third ski area - 16km from Banff and 24km from Lake Louise. The regional lift pass covers all three ski areas.
