Holidays in the Ardèche:

The Ardeche is situated to the South of the Rhones-Alpes region, between the Rhone Valley and the Massif Central. The area is 5,523km2 and has approximately 268,000 inhabitants.

The landscape is magnificent and varied - ranging from the stunning limestone canyon, The Ardeche Gorges, to the colourful villages and sumptuous countryside around Privas, the main town of the department. Some of the best views of the area can be gained from the top of the Gerbier de Jonc mountain (1550 metres). Southern Ardeche boasts a Mediterranean climate and beautiful beaches.

Given the variety of its landscape it is no surprise that the area is popular with canoeists, climbers and hikers as well as those who want to enjoy a somewhat quieter time enjoying the grottos, museums and beautiful landscape dotted with old market towns and ancient villages.

To ensure complete satisfaction in the Ardeche, you really need only three things: a good map, a sturdy pair of walking boots and a healthy appetite for both exploration and distinctive local food.
