Chamonix in the summer is one of France's most visited towns, with tourists from all over the world coming to take in the spectacular views and scenery, and to try the wealth of activities available.
The area always been a mecca for climbers, walkers, mountain bikers and lovers of mountain sports, and the town with its unique atmosphere, has great facilities for mountain lovers of all shapes and forms. The major cable cars and lifts operate during the summer months, the Aiguille du Midi is the best place to go for panoramic views of the Alps, and the Brevent side of the valley is where you'll get the best views of Mont Blanc.
It is a good base from which to explore the area - places worth a visit include Annecy (the principal town of Haute Savoie), Geneva, Yvoire and Evian on Lake Geneva.
