As the resort is in two parts, so indeed is the skiing, Beginners and intermediates will enjoy the many green and blue runs reached from the chairlifts at Chamrousse 1750, whilst the terrain above Chamrousse 1650, being steep and varied, offers a a choice for better skiers of seven black and seven red runs. It is in this latter area that the famous men's downhill lies - at four kilometres (two and a half miles) , the longest in the resort. Of the over 90km of piste, much is below the tree line so those who particularly like to ski through the pines will have fun and the off piste skiing is both plentiful and relatively hazard-free.
With its west to south westerly aspect, Chamrousse does get a lot sun but of course that can mean that the skiing can be hard in the morning and over-soft in the afternoons, particularly as the season progresses.
Around 18 lifts provide uplift of 30,000 skiers per hour but, because of its proximity to the city of Grenoble, things can get somewhat crowded at school holiday times and weekends.
Boarders are welcome all over the mountain and the area has much to offer - indeed the resort boasts that 25% of its visitors are boarders. There is a fun park called Sunset Park for free styler, the wide, easy runs above Chamrousse 1750 are ideal for cruising and carving and Chamrousse 1670 offers a mixture of steep trails and off-piste riding. Novices and boarders seeking instruction can go to the local ski school.
