I'm looking to make an early booking for either this Xmas or New Year for 7 days for 8 people (2 x families with 4 teenagers) in a fully catered chalet. Ideally we need 4 rooms and would prefer a location close to slopes and/or ski lifts rather than have to get a taxi or bus.
We do have some flexibility with our dates and can go anytime from 19th Dec and need to be back by 3rd Jan.
Having now spent a bit more time researching resorts and getting advice from friends I have narrowed down our search for high altitude resorts that are suitable for beginners - we've all been a few times but still prefer greens and blues rather than reds and blacks.
Originally I liked the look of Morzine but I feel that its a bit risky due to its lower altitude and I was also looking at Val D but my mate pointed out that it wasn't great for beginners.
The resorts I have narrowed my search to are now as follows:
1. Alpe d'Huez
2. Tignes
3. Val Thorens
4.Les Menuires
5. Courchevel
Finally, we are seeking comfort rather than luxury because we have to work to a budget but hopefully you can help us find a nice place to have a great family holiday.

Skis and boots can be fitted in the chalet so no need to visit shops, queue etc.

Our friendly chalet-hotel can offer you this season’s prices for an early booking so for the Christmas week the price would be £569 per person in a twin room and for the New Year Week the price would be £649 per adult. The price for children sharing a quad room with 2 adults would be half price. All the rooms are en suite and half board is provided EVERY day comprising breakfast, afternoon tea and 3 course evening meals with complimentary wine and coffee.
The Chalet–hotel les Rhododendrons is in a superb location at high altitude, snow sure and right next to the slopes and two chair lifts in Plagne 1800; centrally located within the village, but just across the street from the ski school meeting point. The whole of the Paradiski area is accessible to you and there are runs to suit every level of ability.
All bedrooms have a TV and there are a great range of guest facilities including a sauna, massage room, restaurant, gym and much more. We also have a friendly bar ‘Le Bobsleigh’.

Location: Peisey&Vallandry, Paradiski France | I am surprised you haven't included Les Arcs in your list of resorts as it has the benefit of being genuinely high-altitude (70% of skiing over 2000m) and is ideal for less experienced skiers/children. Unlike several of the resorts you list the some of the best most 'cruisy' blue runs are actually in the Arc 2000 domaine, the highest part where excellent snow cover is virtually guaranteed throughout the season. And Les Arcs' modern, fast lift system makes if very easy to get between the different parts of this huge ski area (2nd largest in France).
Both our catered chalets are in 'ski to the door' locations, with lifts nearby.Hot-tubs, wifi, 2 lounge areas with TV/DVD, full ensuite rooms, superb catering and hospitality (13th season). Price for you group of 8 in 4 ensuite rooms (either chalet) for w/b 19th December: £5000 GBP.

I think I may have the solution for you. Ski Vive have just secured another chalet for next year which is right opposite Chalet Clementine.
Chalet Galliard is not as luxurious as Chalet Clementine and is therefore cheaper and it is a great chalet in a fantastic location in Meribel-Mottaret, with the same catered service we offer in all our Ski Vive chalets. It is a short walk to the piste in the morning and on your return.
The Chalet has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms and is perfect for your group of 8. It is available from 19th to 26th or 20th to 27th December for £6,800
We provide gourmet food starting the day with a hearty breakfast. On your return from the slopes there will be a homemade cake or biscuits for you to enjoy and the evening starts with canapés and cocktails followed by a relaxed and delicious 3 course meal with unlimited wine. We can also provide an earlier 2 course children’s meal.
From your research you've chosen 3 areas in the 3 Valleys. Mottaret is part of the Meribel Valley and has green runs straight from the centre, and lots of blues and greens both in Mottaret and in the Meribel Altiport area. There is fast access to Courchevel, Les Menuires and Val Thorens being right in the heart of the 3 Valleys.

Good luck with your search. You have selected some lovely resorts.
I just wanted to give you some more information on Morzine. Morzine is linked with Avoriaz which in terms of snow record is one of the most snowsure in France.
At the start of this season, as you will have been aware, there was very little snow anywhere in the Alps until the last week in Dec/first week in January. Despite this, our guests had been skiing quite happily in Avoriaz since the 13th December.
For a trip at Christmas you could do worse than skiing in Avoriaz.
Anyway, should you decide to include Morzine once again in your enquiries then please take at look at our chalets.
