Niederau is the first village in the Wildschonau that you come to and lies at 828 m above sea level.Niederau is immediately recognisable by it’s pointed church steeple and the Markbachjoch mountain behind it.
Skiers bustle through the popular village in winter. In the summer the mountain is a popular destination for walkers and sightseers. The nearest motorway exit in Wörgl is just 10 km away.
Wildschonau is made up of four villages, three with separate ski areas which are marketed together. Oberau is a tiny village close to the dense lift network of larger neighbours Auffach and Niederau, to which it is not lift-linked, A free local bus service links all three villages which also participate in the huge Kitzbüheler Alpen pass offering around 1000km of trails on one ticket. In 2012-13 the local ski area was connected by two gondolas and several miles of piste to that of neighbouring Alpbach creating the 'Ski Jewel' area with 145km of piste shared between the two resorts.
