Chalet Ski Massif

Samoens, Grand Massif, France: bed & breakfast, self catered or catered, sleeps 15/22 An idyllic family-run chalet, built in a traditional style and nestled just below Samoëns 1600.

Chalet Ski Massif

Our chalet is totally unique to Samoëns as we are right up the mountain in amongst the trees and the skiing. We are just below Samoëns 1600, so you can be skiing within 3 minutes of leaving the chalet in the morning, and you don't have to walk anywhere in your ski gear.

We drop you on the edge of a blue, a red or a green run and you ski for as long or as litle as you want.  Then we'll collect you from the piste (or après-ski) and whisk you back to the warmth and comfort of our open fire. Competent off-piste skiiers and snowboarders may of course prefer to ski back themselves, conditions permitting.  We can show you the route through the trees on your first day.

Our ethos is about providing a personal ski experience just for you.  There aren't any other ski chalets up at Samoens 1600 so choose Chalet Ski Massif if you want that authentic Alpine ski experience in beautiful surroundings without the early morning queues.

The chalet is built in the traditional Alpine style, and in keeping with the natural beauty of the area. It is located on a 10,000 sq m. plot in a particularly idyllic spot at 1280m within the “domaine skiable” and has a fabulous uninterrupted 360-degree view of the surrounding mountains.

The chalet has 6 en-suite bedrooms: 4 large family suites which each has a double bed plus two single beds.  1 is large enough for us to add 2 additional single beds if required.  On the first floor we have 2 further double/twin rooms which each sleep 2. Rooms can be configured in a number of different ways, so please let us know your requirements.

All rooms include towels, bath robes, hairdryers and luxury toiletries.

Relaxation / Entertainment:

In the evening, there are a variety of ways for you to relax or entertain yourself:
  • Soak in the outdoor hot-tub.
  • Relax in front of the open wood fire.
  • Enjoy a glass of wine or beer.
  • Watch a movie in the separate TV snug.
  • Challenge someone to a game of pool or table football in the games room, or a board game in the lounge.
  • Take a ride down the floodlit toboggan run.
  • Catch up with friends and family over wi-fi.

For those with young children, we have plenty of toys for all ages, high chairs, travel cots, car seats and baby baths as required.

bar,  boot dryers,  computer,  cot/highchair,  games console,  games room,  garden,  hot tub (outdoor),  iPod docking station,  jacuzzi,  laundry facilities,  open fireplace,  private parking (open),  satellite/cable TV,  terrace,  wifi (free public area),  wifi/internet access,  wood burning stove

We serve freshly baked pastries, cereals, yoghurts, fresh bread and preserves, along with a hot breakfast option, and accompanied with fresh fruit juices, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate.  On our chalet day off, we serve breakfast as normal but without the hot option.

Afternoon tea:
Freshly baked cake accompanied with coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and soft drinks will be awaiting your return from the slopes.

Children's Meals:
We serve an early 2 course dinner for children, cooked to the same high standard as all our food, using fresh ingredients, but tailored to the kind of food they like to eat. Spaghetti bolognese, or bbq chicken and potatoes, for example.

We pride ourselves on the evening meals and hope that the experience will be one of the highlights of your stay. We use seasonal and local produce where possible and tend to focus on quality ingredients over style.

We serve an aperitif and canapes before dinner such as mini Yorkshire puddings with seared beef and horseradish, served with gin & tonics.  Then dinner might be a winter salad of endive, radish, roquefort and toasted walnuts to start, followed by duck breast with buttered new potatoes and wild berry sauce.  Then dessert could be  homemade orange curd and sloe gin ice-cream with warm blackberries and shortbread.

We are serious about our wine, and think it can really make the difference between a good chalet and a great chalet. We provide a choice of 5 red and 5 white bottled wines with dinner as standard, but also have a fairly extensive cellar if you'd prefer to upgrade to something a bit more special. We can provide a list for those who are interested.

There is also an honesty bar with a choice of local and international beers, plus soft drinks for children and a range of spirits and mixers.

We can arrange door to door airport transfers at times to suit you with a local company who know our chalet well. Its just 60 minutes from Geneva.

We can prebook lift passes and ski school on your behalf and can also help you to rent ski equipment, taking you to collect it on your first day.

We can also arrange childcare for you.

Fantastic holiday

"Sally & Matt were the hosts with the most for our week in the snow.

Superb breakfasts, tasty cakes and excellent evening cuisine kept our weight & spirits up.

The bedrooms & bathrooms were excellent and dressing gowns, hot tub, games room and roaring fire kept us cosy, relaxed and entertained.

The ride up to the lift was quick & convenient & Matt would often join us for the last bit of skiing and pick up. We also skied back on one day, which was quite the adventure.

Their ski hire place was super convenient & spoke great English. Equipment was very good and they were super helpful when we wanted to change boots.

There were just 2 of us but the other chalet guests were very friendly & we had a lot of fun.

All in all a great week and we are hoping to get back this season if they can fit us in."

"A fantastic week"

"We're home less than a week and our time in Chalet Ski Massif seems like a dream!! Sally and Matt have done an excellent job looking after us and their property is nothing short of superb. The bedrooms are well laid out for families or couples, warm, comfortable with plenty of towels and storage space. The food was better than any other chalet we've been to (we've been in many others) served with beautiful aperitif to start and well chosen wine. An early dinner for the children followed by the hot tub or a game in the games room or a movie in the separate sitting area ensured they were all happy while we relaxed every evening.

The 3 minute minibus trip to the slopes was much easier than a 5 minute walk with children with skis, gloves, helmets, sticks, goggles etc etc etc!! Matt and Sally were on call to pick us up when we were ready each evening and were happy to pick up anyone early who'd had enough!

I'd recommend this Chalet highly, keep up the good work Guys!!"

A great chalet in a super location

"Back from a great week at Chalet Ski Massif, it's a beautiful comfortable, spacious chalet, great family rooms with lovely space under the eves for kids beds. Sally and Matt are the lovely new owners in this existing business, they made us very welcome, we enjoyed delicious, original meals and great wine. There was the odd teething problem as can be expected in a new venture - Items missing at the breakfast table, realising we're not at the correct meeting point for our ski lessons but all resolved without incident. Samoens 1600 is a great ski resort even though there was only just enough snow at Christmas. Good beginners area with stunning views from all pistes, great access to a huge ski area when all the pistes and lifts are open. We'll definitely return and explore further. We fancy the 14k route across the mountains to Flaine. ...." heatherkift 09 Jan 17
