Mountain Lodge Melezes Nord

Mountain Lodge is run by Rick Thurlow and Wendy Hewson. We hosted and cooked in a chalet last season in Peisey, loved the location at the heart of a traditional French mountain village steeped in history, and decided to run our own chalet 2019 2020. This gives us the freedom to provide our guests with high levels of food and service and to provide a more personalised, tailored holiday.

We were thrilled when we managed to secure the lease for Melezes Nord for this season as the chalet is in a super location just above the Lozangne lift, has an awesome wrap round balcony that catches the last of the sun and with sunset views over Montchavin and La Plagne that can be enjoyed from the hot tub as well, and we really like the ambience of the dining and living areas.

The chalet has 7 bedrooms, all with private ensuites and can sleep 15. All the rooms can be set up as doubles or twins and have space for cots for babes.

We offer all our guests:
  • Breakfast for 7 days with cooked options for 6 days
  • Afternoon tea with fabulous home-made cake for 7 days
  • Child-friendly high tea at 6pm for 6 days
  • Choice of drinks including green and white teas and a nespresso coffee machine
  • Delicious three or four course dinner cooked by Wendy and served by Rick with free flowing wine at 7.30pm for 6 days. For whole chalet bookings we offer a choice of weekly menu, “Hearty Alpine Skier” or “New World Adventurer”
  • Welcome drinks on arrival
  • Toileteries
  • Use of the hot tub
  • Bed linen and towels
  • Lifts to and from the Lozagne lift (morning and late afternoon) and from the bars or cafes at Plan Peisey and Vallandry
We know the resort well and can help you with: transfers; ski hire, ski passes school and lessons; dog, hourse or reindeer rides at Nancroix; the best ski slopes and areas; hire of snow shoes for "get away from it all" walking and the best walks; dinner on our night off; lunches out or delicious packed lunches and the best picnic spots; babysitters, childcare and nannies.

Wendy is a great cook. She comes from a long line of bakers (her father and grandfather were MasterBakers); your afternoon tea cakes might include toasted walnut and coffee, white chocolate and raspberry, blueberry and marscapone as well as traditionals such as Florentines, coconut macaroons, seedy flapjacks, spiced carrot cake and lemon drizzle.

Our menu fuses some well-loved traditional French style dishes, such as duck breast with bitter orange sauce, a tartiflette (which our French guests loved) with home made pickles, and milk cooked pork with roast potatoes, fresh and fried red onions, with more adventurous dishes inspired by Otto Lenghi and Noma. Expect plenty of vegetables and fabulous flavours.

Last seasons guests told us their favourite deserts were: lemon posset with lemon curd, home baked biscotti and a shot of limoncello; sticky toffee pudding with honeycombe and home made ice cream; wine-baked pears with sorbet, marscapone and ginger tuile: white chocolate mousse with a dark orange and brandy  heart; banoffee parfait with a praline crumb, chantilly cream and caramalised bananas. What's not to enjoy!

We can arrange transfers from the airport so its easy and our changeover is Sunday which means the roads are clear. We can offer you transport to the lifts and meal times and menus to suit all tastes!

Our location is great for families as the lift to the slopes takes push chairs and is free, which means you can take little ones and non-skiers to meet skiers on the slopes for lunch or apres ski. There is also a free bus to Nancriox, a magical valley 15 minutes way with sleigh rides, nature walks, an ancient silver mine, and lots more. Think Narnia without the White Witch!

If you dont fancy the stroll to the Lozangne lift or wish to enjoy the sun in the bars after the lifts have closed we will provide transport.

We can help organise qualified nannies, babysitting and childcare.

"I would just like to say a BIG thank you on behalf of B and I and the rest of the group.
We had an absolutely fantastic time, and your hospitality was superb. Probably wasn't an easy group to cater for, what with GF's, veg and a few fussy teenagers! Your meals were amazing and I think I ate every morsel.

Thank you also for making a delicious cake on your day off for the twins 18th.

Hope you are having a well earned relaxing time before your next guests arrive. Love the ski area and the location of the chalet and if opportunity arises would love to stay with you again. Missing the hot tub!!

Take care and have fun (I know you will)

"We stayed in a chalet during the spring of 2019 hosted by Wendy & Rick. They made us feel so at home. Nothing we asked for was too much trouble & the chalet was so very clean with everything we needed. The skiing tips were fantastic, but the highlight undoubtedly had to be the food!!! My goodness wasn’t it fabulous! I wish I could have taken Wendy & Rick home with me! I could happily eat their dishes every day. Hope to see them both again sometime." 19 Aug 19

"Both [Rick and Wendy] are wonderful company and never short of conversation. Expect to be made to feel at home in the chalet. Wendy’s cooking, and the afternoon cake in particular, was always excellent and Rick is forever ready with another bottle of wine. Great hosts and lovely people too." 19 Aug 19

"Wendy & Rick were awesome. We had a wonderful time & they were the most incredible chalet hosts – we all loved them. The food was delicious & the dinner time of 6.30pm (an hour earlier than normal) was very much appreciated." 19 Aug 19
