La Grange de Chemex

Morgins, Portes du Soleil, Switzerland: catered, sleeps 6/10 Exclusive, renovated, luxury 4Star Chalet. Antique wood and stone floors - sophisticated, relaxed atmosphere. Panoramic mountain views. Personalised Menu, wines.

La Grange de Chemex

La Grange de Chemex is an exceptional chalet in the Swiss Alps, dating from 1870, just below Morgins, with easy access to the Portes du Soleil and other resorts such as Villars, Verbier etc. It has just undergone a 7 year programme of meticulous renovation which has involved a complete rebuild using original materials and modern bathroom suites and a state of the art open plan kitchen. We are 10 minutes away from Morgins village centre (one of the prettiest chocolate box Swiss resorts!). It has the advantage of a direct, 75 minute, train service to GVA, via a connection with the mountain railway which passes nearby and also takes you to the cable car station at Champery.

We are passionate skiers, snow-shoers and mountain walkers and chose this location for its convenience to Geneva Airport and its stunning alpine views. The chalet is unusually bright for a historic building and we worked extensively with Patrimony Suisse during the planning phase to ensure that we protected the historic fabric, whilst bringing it up to modern luxury standards. Cancellation policy - full refund if cancelled 2 months ahead, pro rata thereafter.

We will do everything we can to make your stay enjoyable and relaxing. We will be happy (on request) to guide you down our favourite pistes and end up in our favourite tucked away restaurants. If you want to snow-shoe or cross country ski it will be our pleasure to arrange trips out.

Please just call to arrange your bespoke holiday. We are able to be very flexible on arrival dates to maximise your time on the snow.  We are happy to take small groups, minimum 2 persons and will always aim to give you sole occupancy.

We have 5 double bedrooms with balconies and ensuite luxury bathroom or luxury ensuite shower room, including a large upstairs bedroom with a double and a single bed, this bedroom has use of the shower room at the bottom of its staircase.

The main chalet has an immense open-plan living space with a central fireplace, which is built as a mini-chalet with a slate roof!

The professional kitchen has a state of the art central island with range cooker, induction wok and Tepan hob.

The chalet is a fully equipped home from home with a large DVD collection and free professional WiFi throughout. It is extremely comfortable and very stylish, on a par with the best Swiss properties found in Verbier and similar to luxury Lodges in Colorado and Banff.

Guest reviews:

Home from home

"First impressions were excellent, with precise advance information including detailed route instructions and even a charming Champagne grower en route! Our sense of anticipation suitabley appetised, the main event became an unfolding delight. Richard and Mary, young son Tom and Archie the affable Labrador welcomed us warmly. Their beautifully restored chalet provided an excellent home from home: a most comfortable, cosy and relaxing family environment with well appointed rooms and every need catered for. The place is spotlessly clean and the bedrooms and bathrooms are top notch.

As local residents they know the ins and outs of the area and the Portes du Soleil; their assistance and advice was critical to spending our time focused on having fun rather than messing about with administration. Nothing was ever too much trouble and the food was amazing. We ate delicious 5 star meals every single night. Well done Richard and Mary! Not content with this they were always interested in how our day had been, and helped to make the next one even better. There is absolutely nothing I can think of that would have improved our trip. This was our first stay and we are all looking forward to the next – the children are still talking about the skiing and the chalet both of which they loved. If you are reading this review then chances are you may be thinking of booking. My advice would be don’t hesitate – you definitely won't be disappointed!"

Fabulous Family Easter ski break

"This family holiday was everything we could have hoped for and more! Our charming and thoughtful hosts, Richard, Mary, their son Tom and Archie the dog, provided a warm welcome with careful attention to detail. This made us feel immediately at home and ensured that our holiday exceeded all our expectations – a tall order given juggling the very different requirements of us and our two daughters aged 6 and 9.

The luxurious chalet has been lovingly and sympathetically restored and tastefully appointed. Every need has been thought of and catered for. Comfortable beds and deluxe linens ensure a restful sleep after a day on the slopes. The beautifully appointed bathrooms are gorgeous. The views are breath taking and the balcony is the perfect place to end the day with a glass of wine. We have never eaten so well. Richard and Mary are brilliant cooks. Every meal was a Masterchef entry and the wine selection from their personal cellars never failed to please.

La Grange de Chemex is perfectly situated to ensure easy access to Swiss and French ski slopes in the Portes du Soleil and with too many day trip possibilities to list. We particularly enjoyed the thermal baths and the chocolate factory. Richard and Mary’s local knowledge ensured that our short stay ran smoothly. Not only did they sort out discounted ski rentals and ski school for the children, their intuitive advice on the best places to ski was invaluable and spot-on!

We have had to tear ourselves away and can’t wait to come back again."

Our Third visit to this beautiful chalet

"This beautiful 19th century chalet is situated a short drive from the resort of Morgins. It has been very tastefully restored to a luxurious standard. All the rooms have ensuite bathrooms and very comfortable beds- a must after a hard days skiing. The food is amazing and cooked by the hosts Mary and Richard, whom are
exceptional cooks. Fresh home made cakes greet you after a hard days skiing followed by amuse bouche at 6pm washed down with some fizz. Dinner follows which consists of a three course meal, with cheese and biscuits to follow if you can manage to squeeze them in. A fun wine tasting session happens on the first night which is not only fun but gives the hosts an idea of your wine tastes so they can provide what you like through the week. Richard and Mary are very keen skiers and are happy to show you the mountain so you can get the best out of your skiing during your stay; providing top tips as to where to eat and drink on the mountain. You also receive a discount at a local ski rental shop and ski school when you mention their names. We are now on our third visit and each time brought family or friends with us, who have all equally enjoyed their stay. For us it is like a home from home and nothing is too much trouble for the hosts. They contact you prior to your stay and ask about dietary needs, likes and dislikes so they can cater the menu to your exact needs and your fussy kids. The resort is small and is never over crowded, providing a gateway to the Portes du Soleil. Come and see for yourself, you won't be disappointed "

Fantastic Half Term Week Feb 2015

"We holidayed at Chalet La Grange de Chemex during the Feb 2015 half term in a group of 9 (4 adults, 5 teenagers). Richard, Mary, Tom (age 3) and Archie the dog made us all feel very welcome in their beautiful home and were the perfect hosts. The chalet is spacious and beautifully appointed and the food, all prepared by Richard and Mary, was of an extremely high quality and plentiful. Their knowledge about the area was very useful: they've found the perfect balance between offering practical and helpful advice when requested but not being at all intrusive or prescriptive which we have found at some catered chalets in the past. It felt like staying with friends that we'd known for years even though this was the first time we'd met. We very much enjoyed our evenings together and the impromptu wine tastings!

The location in the heart of the Portes Du Soleil ski area gives a vast choice of skiing in both Switzerland and France. The main base of Morgins is only 15 minutes up the road by car but most of the other Portes Du Soleil resorts are less than 45 minutes away. In 2015 half term, as predicted by Richard, the Swiss side was the best option for steering clear of the crowds. On certain days we even had the odd run to ourselves! All in all, a fantastic week's skiing, with great company and excellent food."

A wonderful ski week in January.

"A warm family welcome from Richard and Mary, Tom aged 3 and Archie the Labrador in their beautifully restored chalet with many interesting features and fantastic views. Delicious meals preceded by a kir and imaginative amusebouches round the fire.
Snow fell every day, 4 feet in 4 days which made the narrow access road difficult in these extreme conditions. Richard kindly helped us out one day with his 4 wheel drive, when our winter tyres couldn't cope. However it gave us fantastic snow conditions on the slopes despite variable visibility. The Portes Du Soleil is a huge well connected ski area and this is a good base to access several points to it. There is also an hourly cog railway to Champery close by.

Fantastic summer family holiday

"The Chalet is beautiful with many original features and the views across the valley are spectacular. Richard and Mary really know how to look after you and the food was just devine. They are both very knowledgable about the local area and keen to ensure you get the best out of your stay. The rooms were very comfortable and spacious with numerous to choose from. As a family with children aged 9 and 7 we found that there was more than enough to do - the Portes du Soleil multi-pass was an added bonus too!" tomstapleton 05 Sep 14

Fantastic early-season week!

"Just returned from a week half-board at La Grange with hosts Richard and Mary. I could not have been more impressed - stunning location and the chalet quality just as advertised (exceptional). They are clearly very accomplished cooks and manage the whole guest exeperience with a quiet ease and efficiency. I skied with them both in Morgins and Les Crosets and heard the fascinating story of the Chalet's development while in awe of ther scenery and getting my ski legs back. Highly recommended if you want a quality break in a family-friendly, stunning chalet with a variety of resorts nearby." JonathanApps 27 Dec 12
